These flowers appear every Summer, sometimes in great profusion. They are called California Poppies, I believe, but I have no idea why that is. Like some other flower names, it is not clear why the name was chosen and applied. But leaving all that aside, they make an attractive sight particularly as here where the background is a little dull and the day was overcast. A bit of colour in a drab scene!
