July 1 is Canada Day, a time when people in Canada get together to celebrate their country, peoples, traditions and beliefs. There are celebrations and events of all types, from parades, races, dances, lunches, sports and unusual things typically in small places. The town where I live has its own special event: build-your-own-boat and race it round a watercourse. This attracts a large and vocal crowd and the boats are built by teams from plywood, lumber and other materials supplied by the local lumber yard. Then comes the launch (where some boats soon sink) and the race - the exercise being to actually stay afloat and finish! Good fun for all.
Just noticed - in the photo of the two boats the woman in the front is paddling and the two men behind her are not!!
