Another new word

Here's a new one - texted!
New words seem to be appearing frequently these days. We all know about Googling, Emailing and any number of other new verbs developed from nouns, but I saw a new one today in our local newspaper. There was a very sad report of a bad accident where an aircraft crashed into a mountain among tall trees. Two passengers survived and managed to get out of the wreck and realized that it would be very difficult for the searchers to locate them in such difficult terrain, so one of them used his cell phone to guide them. The newspaper report said that he "texted" them. I have not come across "texted" before but maybe it is about to join the language!
