There is a large horse chestnut tree close to where I live. The last few days have been warm and dry and Spring has officially arrived, so the tree has woken up from the winter and started to produce sticky buds and leaves. I always wonder why the buds are sticky - I don't suppose it is to catch insects, but perhaps it is to stop insects and birds from alighting on the buds and eating them. Anybody know?
